Earthbound Zero

I have always been a huge fan of Earthbound-likes.  RPGs are probably my favorite genre of game if you can’t tell by how much I play them, so I’ve always been a fan of how these sorts of games tend to deconstruct the idea and present interesting questions about how we play.  To date I’ve played two Earthbound-likes; Undertale and Off, however I’ve never done a playthough before of a game that actually has the Earthbound name.  Fun fact, this is also to date the oldest game I have done a playthough of.  I’m excited for this one!

Monster Box ver4.9

Another short update.  Today they added four new medals that you can obtain by increasing a certain stat of the enemies you fight.  This is a cool update to me since beforehand there really wasn’t a reason to upgrade those stats, since they’re usually not worth the trouble they can cause you.  Now they can at least give you some medals.

Monster Box ver4.8

I was at Portcon for most of the day so this is coming a little late, but I finally got around to playing the new update.  This one appears to be the exact opposite to the Class Only medals.  Medals from that update requires you to use all of the same class, and this update adds a bunch of medals that require you to have at least one ranger of every class.  It’s kind of interesting.  I’ll be seeing how many I can get and get the video up tomorrow.

Monster Box ver4.7

A very simple update today, but one that I honestly feel was very necessary for a game like this.  A few months from now when we’re playing this game, we won’t be able to imagine how we played without this new feature, it’s that kind of update.

So no new content was added to the game, but what they did was add the ability for us to hold our mouse down on an upgrade button, and a second later it will rapidly upgrade the stat provided you have the money.  It’s kind of cool, and it’s a very nice addition too.

Monster Box ver4.6

Whoa!  They added a lot of new medals today.  12 to be exact.  It seems like ha55ii is now adding medals to the game that make it impossible to get each and every one in a single playthough.  Kind of an interesting way to do it considering how incremental games usually work.

So what the new medals do is they award the player for achieving a high enough total level, total money, or total DPS all while having all of your rangers be of a certain class.  It doesn’t matter which one, in fact, it appears there’s one for doing this with each class, but each of your rangers needs to be the same exact class in order for these achievements to work.

I’ll be playing around with this and seeing which medals I can get.  I’ll probably focus on the Gladiator or the Sniper since I find those 2 classes to be the best in Monster Box right now.  Video tomorrow with the results as well as any new information I can find!

Monster Box ver4.5

Today they added 2 new additions.  First was three new medals, and seconds was a bug fix involving the Flame Armor ability of the magician.  I really didn’t know what the bug was with the magician, so I can’t really comment on it, but I checked out the new medals, which are basically achievements.

The new medals all have one thing in common.  And that’s that they can all be gotten in the first 10 minutes of play.  In any of these sorts of games, I was never good at getting these, and I tried my best to get them, but I couldn’t do it.  I always fumble about what to prioritize.

There was 1 10-minute medal I was able to get though, it was the one for collecting 5 jewels.  However the achievement popped up when the timer hit 10:05.  I wasn’t able to collect footage of this, so you’re going to have to take my word on it.  Maybe this was a glitch, or maybe it was something else.

Plants Vs. Zombies

PopCap’s Plants Vs. Zombies is a game I’ve actually always wanted to play for my channel for years.  This game is a classic and even won a few awards as well.  It’s a unique tower defense game about stopping zombies from reaching your house by planting a wide variety of plants to defeat them.

Pokemon Insurgence

Pokemon Insurgence is a Pokémon fangame by The Suzerain which incorporates a lot of interesting ideas and mechanics, such as items as HMs (something I’ve always wanted in the actual games, by the way), races, new Mega Evolutions, and Delta Pokémon.  It’s a highly regarded fangame, right up there with Reborn and Ethereal Gates.

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara’s Adventure

This is a very nostalgic playthough I decided to start since I went like giving one of my childhood favorites another run! I haven’t played it in years, but that’s never stopped me before. This is a game about taming monsters who will then fight for you. It has a lot of mechanics similar to Pokémon. In fact, I actually feel it’s aged better than a lot of the older games of that particular series.
In this playthough I wanted to experiment with a wide variety of monsters, which is something I do a lot nowadays with these sorts of games. A confession I have for this game is that I’ve actually never beaten it before. I could never beat the second-to-last boss as a kid. However I’ve gotten better at RPGs since then, and I am determined to finally defeat him!

The Princess’ Heart

Around the time I was getting into Steam bundles I discovered a number of strange and unique games that I would of never heard of if it weren’t for these sorts of deals.  One game I got in one of these bundles was The Princess’ Heart by RosePortal Games.  I noticed that it was an RPG Maker game, and that’s what prompted me to try it out.
